A 55-year-old Ukrainian national was killed in a motorbike accident just outside Pattaya Sunday morning after he tried to make a U-turn on Highway 36 and was hit by a car in the fast lane.
Mr. Ivan Yatsyniak and a friend from Finland had reportedly rented two motorcycles in Pattaya to go on a trip to Koh Chang when they somehow lost their way and had to make a U-turn outside the Bira racing circuit.
Pattaya One reports that Mr. Yatsyniak’s bike was first “struck by a fast-moving Honda CRV” in the right lane of the carriageway. His body was thrown off the motorcycle and right “into the path of a Nissan pick-up” who ran over the foreigner before coming to a halt.
While it appears as though the Ukrainian failed to look in the rear mirror and may have been at fault himself, the drivers of both vehicles involved in the fatal accident – a Thai woman and a Thai man – were both detained for questioning.
