Two popular GoGo bars on South Pattaya’s Walking Street, Alcatraz A-GoGo and Happy A-GoGo, were raided late Wednesday night by police and military officers following what emerged to be unsubstantiated reports that the venues were operating without proper licenses and employed underage workers and “illegal aliens.”
The raids come in the aftermath of an ongoing crackdown on human trafficking and body massage parlours in Bangkok and Pattaya and in view of a new police chief in town who appears to take his job very seriously.
Following the disruptive and fruitless raids on the two high-profile targets, three further unnamed nightspots in the Walking Street area were also raided. All venues were however found to hold the appropriate licenses and no underage girls or foreigners were found to be working at the time.
So much ado about nothing. But why all this hassle in the first place?
Apparently, Pattaya One quote a police source as saying, anonymous complaints had been made to authorities regarding underage workers and “illegal aliens” working at the five venues, “so spot checks had to be made.”
