A 25-year-old Chinese tourist claims he was robbed on Pattaya beach opposite Soi 10 early Monday evening after he had walked around Pattaya for “many hours,” stopped for a rest on the beach and fell asleep. When he woke up, he alleges, his bag containing 27,000 Baht, 1,000 Hong Kong dollars in cash and a MacBook was stolen.
While there are no eyewitnesses and this might well be just an insurance scam, a sleeping foreign tourist on the beach obviously always makes for an easy target, so make sure you never carry more cash on you than you need if you should ever get into a similar situation. Even better, don’t fall asleep on the beach after dark.
In related news, Pattaya One report, a 39-year-old Pakistani tourist claims he was robbed by a “gang of women” on Pattaya Beach Road, opposite the entrance to Soi 2, Monday night. He told police he lost 1,000 Baht and 1,000 US dollars in cash in the robbery.
Well, let’s assume these were a bunch of ladyboys rather than a “gang of women” and that they used the usual trick of chatting the unaware tourist up, groping and distracting him while emptying his trouser pockets.
