A 30-year-old Scottish tourist was “severely injured” after falling from a 5th-floor window at the Eurostar International Hotel on Jomtien Soi 1 Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, named as Mr. Brien Strathern, had only checked in at the hotel Tuesday morning and was alone at the time, hotel staff said.
Police investigators weren’t able to confirm yet whether this was a failed suicide attempt or a tragic accident. It’s not known either how critical the British tourist’s injuries are.
Pattaya One News report that
the reasons for the fall are not clear as communication with Mr. Strathern was not possible due to the extent of his injuries.
According to Pattaya Daily News, however, police suspect he might have been
stressed and tried to commit suicide by jumping out of the window.
PDN also add that Mr. Strathern “suffered a broken leg and bruises to his body” (so no life-threatening injuries as it seems) and that a maid at the hotel
heard shouting coming from inside his room before she heard a loud thud in the alley next to the hotel.
… which brings up the question who the young Scotsman was “shouting” at – that’s if he was really alone at the time of the fall as alleged by hotel staff?
