Two young Russian tourists were arrested at 4 a.m. on Friday morning after they ran through a police checkpoint in South Pattaya and knocked over a policeman with their Honda CBR 300R motorcycle.
The incident happened on the overpass from Pattaya 3rd Road to the Bali Hai Pier at the southern end of Walking Street and resulted in the young police officer suffering a broken ankle, chest bruising and head injuries.
Police suspect that the driver of the bike, a 23-year-old Russian tourist named as Mr. German Chernyak, and his unidentified Russian pillion passenger were both drunk when they ran through the checkpoint.
Pattaya One News report that
officers were positioned on the overpass leading to the Bali Hai Port in South Pattaya, just before 4am and noticed a motorbike driven by a foreigner, which appeared to be speeding up rather than slowing down as they approached the checkpoint.
As the Russians ran through the checkpoint, their bike knocked over a 22-year-old police officer who was rushed to hospital and is now recovering from his multiple injuries.
According to police, the two young Russians both appeared to be drunk and are currently being held at Pattaya Police Station pending further investigations.
