A Russian tourist was stabbed by a young Thai man in a road rage attack outside the Pattaya City Hospital on Soi Buakhao just after midnight on Tuesday morning. The Russian was slashed across the stomach and suffered a 10-centimetre gash but is said to be out of danger.
According to local media reports, the Russian tourist and a friend had been riding around Pattaya on a rented motorcycle when they bumped into two young Thai men on another motorbike who claimed the foreigners had cut in front of them.
Both sides pulled to the side of the road and got into a verbal argument that soon however turned violent. At one point, one of the two Thai men, a 20-year-old named as Wanchana Tulathong, eventually pulled a knife and stabbed one of the Russians in the stomach.
Bystanders who had been watching the events unfold eventually detained the assailant along with the fruit knife used in the attack and took the Russian victim to hospital where police were alerted to the scene. The second Thai man involved in the street fight managed to escape before police arrived.
