Pattaya’s own replica of Bangkok’s famous floating markets, located off Sukhumvit Road just south of Pattaya, has been voted Thailand’s “best tourist attraction” by more than five million Chinese Internet users and was presented an award by the Thai culture minister over the weekend.

The votes for the award were cast by users of Sina Weibo, which is China’s foremost micro-blogging site, and is their equivalent to Twitter and Facebook.
A staggering 35.7 million votes were cast and the Pattaya Floating Market won with 5.56 Million votes.
The Pattaya Floating Market opened to the public in 2008 and covers an area of approx. 100,000 square metres. It has since become one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions and a favourite exceedingly with Asian visitors.
The highly commercialized attraction has about 80 boats on standby to ferry visitors around the extensive network of canals, and features more than 100 boutique shops and stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts, regional products, and specialties from all over Thailand. Other attractions include, for example, outdoor cultural performances like Thai classical dance or martial art demonstrations.
