In a press conference at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach mall, tourism officials on Monday announced details of the upcoming annual “Pattaya Countdown” event that is sure to result in widespread stop-and-go traffic in South Pattaya in the days leading up to the main event on New Year’s Eve.
Likely in response to a decreased number of tourists during the traditional peak season and to save expenses, this year’s Pattaya Countdown 2016 festival will however be significantly shorter than in previous years and kick off only on December 29. Traditionally, the festival would start on Christmas Day and last seven days and nights.
Pattaya One reports that this year’s shortened three-day event, as usual held at the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night, however still promises loads of fun and will “feature some of Thailand’s top bands and singers”, including popular local acts such as Big Ass, Buddha Bless, Labanoon, and Slot Machine.
The three-night New Year’s party at the southern end of Walking Street will culminate in a spectacular fireworks show on New Year’s Eve that is usually also broadcast live on national television.
As usual, entry to the event and all concerts will be free of charge.
