His death allegedly followed an argument with his Thai girlfriend late on Wednesday night.
The Irishman’s body was found at the base of the high-rise building, with Pattaya One News noting that the “severity of the life-ending injuries sustained to Mr. Knotts indicated … that he had indeed fallen from a high floor.” His 47-year-old girlfriend, who was still in the couple‚Äôs room on the 36th floor, claimed that the bruises that were visible in her face were the result of an “earlier physical altercation” with her foreign boyfriend.
Pattaya One reports that the pair had just “returned from a Chinese New Year party and all seemed normal until Mr. Knotts checked his emails. At this point he became angry and aggressive which led to a fight” with his girlfriend. “She left the apartment and asked for assistance from a security guard working at the condominium, who escorted her back. When the pair entered the apartment, Mr. Knotts was standing on the balcony and was smoking a cigarette. As the security guard approached Mr. Knotts, he reportedly jumped off the balcony to his death.”
The report adds that Mr. Knotts allegedly had “financial problems and was about to have his house in Ireland repossessed”. Police accepted these circumstances as a likely motive behind the “apparent suicide”.
