A 50-year-old “drunk” Indian tourist was assaulted and robbed by a gang of five Thai teenagers on Pattaya beach early Thursday morning. The victim, named as Mr. Narander Rajoo, sustained a head injury and had to be treated at a local hospital.
The attackers are believed to be members of a local teenage gang who regularly hang out and drink on the beach promenade and specifically “target vulnerable foreigners in the area”.
Pattaya One quotes an eyewitness of the assault as saying that the Indian tourist
was staggering and appeared heavily intoxicated. Moments later a group of five young Thai men approached Mr. Rajoo and used pieces of wood to strike him over the head. He fell to the ground and the gang proceeded to steal 50,000 Baht and 2,500 US Dollars from his trouser pockets.
Khaosod English quotes a police source as saying
These teenagers like to pose as masters of the beach and drink alcohol together. When they are drunk, they extort money from residents in the area. They assault victims who refuse to give up the money.
Ironically, the assault happened only “meters away from Pattaya Police Station”.
