An elderly Frenchman jumped to his death from a 6th-floor landing at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach mall late Thursday night. He eventually landed at the top of an escalator on the third floor and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suicide comes less than a week after an unidentified British national had also threatened to jump to his death from a balcony at the mall but was kept from doing so by security guards in the very last minute.
According to witnesses quoted by Pattaya One, the 71-year-old French national, identified as Mr Claude Andre Antoine Tohrer, had been
standing on the sixth-floor landing looking down at the mall when, without warning, he began to climb over the rail.
Passers-by tried to stop him and many were screaming at him to climb down but he immediately jumped to his death.
No farewell letter was found at the scene and the motive for the Frenchman’s suicide remains unknown.
