An unidentified foreign man and his Thai girlfriend, both aged approx. 30 to 35 years old, were badly injured late Friday night after the foreigner drove his motorcycle over a manhole on a freshly repaved section of Pattaya Second Road.
While the foreign man was unconscious and reportedly “badly injured”, his Thai girlfriend and pillion passenger was “severely injured with blood over her face.”
A Thai man whose motorcycle was hit after the foreigner lost control of his bike and slid down the newly repaved road also suffered a minor injury to his right ankle. All victims were taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the foreign man had been “speeding” his Honda Click motorcycle when he drove over the pothole near Soi 13 and “lost control and fell”. ThaiVisa.com reports that the motorcycle then “slid for about 100 meters and hit another bike”.
The report also adds that
part of the road has been repaved higher while the lid of manholes of sewerage pipes have not been lifted up to the same level of the new road pavement, causing them to be shallow holes.
