Less than 24 hours after a young Chinese tourist was killed when his jet ski was struck by a speedboat off Koh Larn’s Tawaen beach, another eight Chinese tourists were injured in a head-on collision of two speedboats just off the popular tourist island and close to the scene of Monday’s fatal crash.
A total of 16 Chinese tourists had just chartered a speedboat from Tawaen beack back to the mainland when it collided with an oncoming vessel carrying an unknown number of Chinese tourists from Pattaya to Koh Larn.
The head-on collision at about 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon partially sank the oncoming vessel. While all passengers on both boats were rescued, eight tourists sustained minor injuries and were taken to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment. One Chinese woman reportedly suffered a broken leg.
Same as Monday’s fatal crash, the accident has been blamed on high waves obscuring visibility for the drivers of the two boats. Police are now trying to track down the drivers to question them and bring them to justice.
